How we announced it:
A special Celebration ...will take place in downtown Burlington. We cordially invite the community to join with us at 1 pm with the unveiling of an official Vermont historic marker at the corner of Battery and College streets honoring the Italians and other immigrants who lived there. Senator Patrick Leahy and others will be honored guests. Our program will then move to Main Street Landing were we will have a showing of the film, "Champlain Street Urban Renewal Project" by Patrick Farrington, followed by a heart-felt presentation by Joe Maietta, who was “born on the steps of the Hilton”. A panel discussion with others from the old neighborhood will follow.
In the lobby of the Main Street Landing throughout the day from 1:30-5:00pm, we will have a continual mini-Italian festival. Our VIC committee members are busily planning events for the entire family such as art activities for children, live music, pasta-making demonstrations, and... oh, yes, food! We cannot have an Italian gathering without food. There will be home-made pastries, freshly-baked pizza, Italian hot chocolate and more.
