Future Past

Future Past is a platform created by Coby Brownell, Assistant Professor at Burlington's Champlain College in graphic design. The project began as a graduate thesis for Coby and has developed into a passionate effort to bring history alive and celebrate the once-thriving community. The Vermont Italian Cultural Association (VICA) is deeply indebted to Coby for all his hard work and dedication to archiving the memories of this old immigrant neighborhood, Piccolo Italia Burlington.

There are two main sections, first is the Augmented Reality GPS based smartphone reconstruction of each and every building which existed prior to urban renewal. You would need to must be in close proximity to the exact location in order to view these materials. The second section is the web based information including a detailed Interactive map (built on the 3D model) and the Exhibits & Collections section which includes portraits, street views, demolition photos, and other artifacts.

This collection of photos, stories, video and other firsthand data is an ongoing project. We welcome all who have information regarding this  area and the period of time up until 1968 to please contact or send materials to cobybrownell@gmail.com and we will add to collection.
