Do you have to be Italian to join the Vermont Italian Cultural Association?
No, anyone interested in the culture of Italy is welcome. Most members are of Italian descent or married to Italians, but we have many members of different nationalities.
Who runs the Organization?
An elected board of volunteer directors is responsible for the day-to-day duties of our nonprofit corporation. In addition, we have several committees responsible for such tasks as membership, hospitality, special events, lecture series,
finance a& administration and scholarship. We do the work without paid staff.
What do I receive for my dues?
You will receive a copy of our events newsletter, Il Messaggio (published quarterly), announcements for special events and discounts on VICA-sponsored trips and fee-based events and the opportunity to participate in our many ongoing events.
What kinds of things does VICA do?
We offer education in the Italian language and culture including Italian language groups, Italian films, opera trips, bocce instruction and gatherings, social gatherings, luncheons, dinners, and lectures. Lectures involve local members and guests, and guests from Italy who make presentations on various topics. Our trips have included trips to the opera in Montreal and special interest trips like the Barre, VT Granite tour. Social gatherings include our annual Christmas Brunch, an Epiphany celebration in January, a summer picnic/annual membership meeting usually at Burlington's Oakledge Park, and our annual scholarship dinner.
