2013 Little Italy - Burlington, VT
The city of Burlington accepted 3 interpretive panels as a gift from the Vermont Italian Club. These signs were installed near the boundaries of Burlington's historic "Little Italy" neighborhood. On November 9, 2013, the 3 commemorative panels were dedicated with a celebration in the lobby of the Cathedral. A walking tour to view the new signs followed the dedication.
The production and installation of these commemorative panels was made possible through the support and cooperation of the following organizations:
Lake Champlain Basin Program
Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership
Burlington Community and Economic Development Office

John Varricchione gives a talk, presented by the Vermont Italian Club, on the effects of Burlington's urban renewal. John shares the some of the lives of many residences and businesses that were owned by hard-working, middle-class Italians, French, Irish and Lebanese families. Predominantly Italian, the Vermont Italian Club presently refers to this area as "Little Italy."
John shares what those houses and businesses looked like in the 1960s. Some begged for rehabilitation and destruction, but a majority of them were fine, well-kept establishments that offered proud living accommodations and business enterprises for those who lived in this section of downtown Burlington.
