Dual Citizenship Panel Discusses Process: May 21, 2012

Four panelists (Michael Giangrego, Don Catalano, Steve Baietti, MaryAnn Procopio), moderated by Nancy Specht, outlined the myriad details in obtaining dual citizenship with Italy at the Essex Brownell Library. Taking up to two years to complete the process, with varying amounts of expense and travel, persistence is the most valued virtue in successfully completing the process.

A powerful story about Ida Dalser's attempt to prove her marriage to a young Benito Mussolini, coupled with real-life newsreels of World Wars I and II, including snippets of Mussolini's speeches, there was enough drama for a lot of interesting conversation - and much to ponder.
Needle Felting Workshop - March 31, 2012

Under the tutelage of fiber artist Carol Usher, a small, eager group of burgeoning artists eager to join the lineage of Italian greats met in March to learn how to create fruits and vegetables from wool....the very fruits and vegetables that are staples of the Italian cuisine. Using the dry form of felting with a 3" barbed needle that is poked into loose woolen fibers to create 3-dimensional forms, they saw pumpkins, an apple, a pear and a cauliflower come to life before their eyes!
Home-Film Night: My Voyage to Italy by Martin Scorsese - Apr 21, 2012

Some VIC members recently enjoyed the first of a series of a home-showing documentary film on Italian neorealism by Martin Scorsese. Scorsese quotes Roberto Rosellini in the film who said that people knew how to live in society but not in community. Neorealism certainly captured the essence of Italian community, and perhaps the home showing of this film was in some small way an attempt to capture that forgotten quality in our modern world...with a little vino, a little cheese, a little tiramisu,' warm conversation....
Italian-American Book Discussion Group - Fall 2012
The Vermont Italian Cultural Association, the Fletcher Free Library and the Vermont Humanities Council sponsored an Italian-American Book Group featuring 3 books with guided discussions and refreshments of course!
The discussions were held at the Fletcher Free Library, 235 College St., Burlington.
The series was open to all, not just Burlington residents or members of the Vermont Italian Cultural Association.

Skyped discussion with the author from her home in California - 7 pm in the Community Room
