Summer Picnic Scampagnata d'estate
Each year we host a picnic at Oakledge Park in Burlington on a Sunday in June. Members bring delicious, homemade Italian food. This event serves as an opportunity for all members and their guests to come together to enjoy a day of feasting and fun at the park facilities (swimming, bocce, playground, music, etc.) and serves as our annual business meeting as well as for any voting issues that may come up.

Our annual picnic and membership meeting took place on a delightful Sunday afternoon this year - a welcome change from last year's cold, rainy day. About 50 members attended the picnic. The food was delicious as usual. David Usher, VICA Vice-President welcomed the club members and gave a synopsis of all our events and activities this past year. He presented the slate of officers and directors and the members voted to accept the slate. Nicole Librandi explained our new Routes to Roots (R2R) project - an oral history of organization members and their ties to Italy. We are excited about this project which is still in its infamcy. Marie and Celeste delighted us with Italian music and we closed the evening with a sing-along.

After many years of perfect weather for our annual picnic, 2016 brought a cold rainy day. However, this did not stop about fifty determined members who attended - some wearing gloves and hats. There was no shortage of delicious homemade food and lots of enthusiastic conversation. A few hearty souls played bocce before the meal and David Resnik led a sing along after the meal. This picnic is also our annual meeting when the members vote on the slate of Officers and Directors.
The slate as presented was unanimously accepted. Outgoing president Steve Baietti gave his report to the membership, reviewing the activities and accomplishments of the organization over the past year. Incoming Vice President David Usher thanked Steve for all his dedication and hard work. Nicole Librandi gave a presentation on our new Routes to Roots project, which is just in the development stage.

On a fabulous, sunny afternoon we celebrated our annual picnic and membership meeting at the Oakledge Park picnic shelter. About 50 members enjoyed the perfect weather, good food, and catching up with old friends. Bocce was available before the picnic for those who wished to play. President Steve Baietti welcomed club members and gave a recap of the many events we hosted this year. Robbe Brook presented the slate of officers and directors for 2015-2017 and Steve called for a vote, which was unanimous. Adrienne Donohue talked about our new scholarship and grants program. George Molla raffled off the door prize. Members Marie DiCocco and Celest DiPietropaolo played a variety of Italian folk songs then taught us some regional Italian Folk Dances. Check out the video below! (Go full screen for the best experience.)

Once again mother nature smiled on the Vermont Italian Club as we celebrated our annual picnic at Oakledge Park. About 60 members and their guests enjoyed a perfect summer day at the picnic shelter. Members socialized, played bocce, listened to (and sang along with) music by Paula Chiuchiolo and Arthur Zorn, and enjoyed a meal of wonderful food made by club members.

The 2013 picnic was once again held at Oakledge Park in Burlington during a fantastic summer day on June 9th. This year we opted for the larger shelter at the park as the 2012 picnic was so successful that members had trouble finding places to sit and eat. About 60 members and their guests joined us this year. We enjoyed wonderful food, nostalgic music by Terri Conti on her accordion, bocce, and conversation.
The 2012 picnic was held at Oakledge Park in Burlington during the most gorgeous Sunday weather on June 10th. Three new VIC directors were elected at that time - Terri Burrell, John Varricchione and Ralph Montefusco.
How can we say enough delicious things about the food?....it kept diminishing and diminishing with more and more
returns to the buffet tables! Music, singing, and the warmth of Italian togetherness filled the gazebo of the park. The "clean-up crew" continued to celebrate the day and a job-well-done at John Rao's new pizzeria La Verita'
(156 St. Paul St., Burlington). That's a place you'll need to try!
